Bucklige Welt

A hilly region affected by storms and changing rainfall.

Bucklige Welt–Wechselland is a rural region in eastern Austria known for its rolling hills, forested landscapes, and dispersed settlements. Agriculture and forestry play a central role in the local economy, making the region particularly sensitive to climate-related changes such as shifting precipitation patterns, drought, and increased risk of extreme weather events.
As a GRACE demonstrator region, Bucklige Welt–Wechselland will pilot innovative approaches to climate adaptation that integrate sustainable land management, ecosystem restoration, and community engagement. Special attention will be given to strengthening the resilience of rural infrastructure, agriculture, and forest ecosystems.
Through participatory processes and collaborative governance models, the project will empower local actors to actively shape climate adaptation strategies tailored to the needs of remote rural communities.
