Cavallino-Treporti

A coastal area exposed to flooding and sea-level rise.

Cavallino-Treporti is a coastal municipality located in the Veneto region of Italy, characterised by a unique lagoon ecosystem, tourism-driven economy, and strong agricultural traditions. Its low-lying territory is highly exposed to climate change impacts such as sea-level rise, coastal erosion, flooding, and saltwater intrusion.
Through GRACE, Cavallino-Treporti will serve as a living laboratory for testing innovative adaptation strategies that combine ecosystem restoration, nature-based coastal protection, and community-driven planning. Local stakeholders—including municipalities, farmers, tourism operators, and citizens—will work together to co-design solutions addressing both environmental and socio-economic vulnerabilities.
The project will strengthen the region’s capacity to anticipate climate risks while safeguarding local livelihoods and preserving its fragile coastal ecosystems.
