Thessaly

Agricultural region affected by droughts and floods.

The Thessaly region in central Greece is one of the country’s most important agricultural areas. However, it faces increasing climate challenges, including severe droughts, heatwaves, and water scarcity, which threaten agricultural production and rural livelihoods.

As a GRACE replicator region, Thessaly will draw on the solutions developed in the demonstrator regions to strengthen its adaptation strategies. The region will work closely with local stakeholders to identify transferable practices—particularly nature-based solutions and sustainable water management approaches—that can be adapted to its specific context.

Through knowledge exchange and capacity-building activities, GRACE will support Thessaly in enhancing its resilience to climate risks while promoting sustainable rural development.
