Mountainous area facing storms and winter climate shifts.
Žilina Region, located in northern Slovakia, is characterised by mountainous landscapes, forests, and dispersed rural settlements. Climate change is expected to intensify extreme weather events such as floods and storms, posing risks to local infrastructure, ecosystems, and communities.
Within GRACE, Žilina will replicate and adapt successful solutions from the demonstrator regions to strengthen regional adaptation strategies. The focus will be on enhancing ecosystem resilience, improving climate-informed planning, and fostering community engagement in climate action.
By participating in cross-regional learning processes, Žilina will build the institutional and societal capacity required to address climate challenges in rural and mountainous areas.
